In 2015 Google.org joined Ayuda en Acción for the development of the Gen10s project in Spain. This project aimed at teaching children how to code using Scratch, promoting equal opportunity in the digital world and help break down gender and socioeconomic barriers.
Through SIC Esperança this project was implemented in Portugal aiming at training 5 000 students in grades 5 and 6 (~11-12 years old) throughout the country.
I joined the project as a Scratch instructor for the CCTIC of Setúbal, going to several schools of the Setúbal district. I monitored over 10 classes, supporting more than 200 children on their first steps in programing. Besides the technical aspect of programming, I guided the students on the development of critical thinking, working as a group, development of an original project, and presentation to an audience.
As a Scratch instructor, I was also invited to conduct a Scratch workshop at the 2018 edition of the Scratch Day, organized by CCTIC Setúbal at the Setúbal Politechnical Institute. Additionally, I also took part in the jury for the national contest "A criar com Scratch".
